The PSP of Lagos arrested in the early hours of September 13 a 17-year-old youth on suspicion of involvement in various robberies and violent assaults recorded in recent months in that Algarve city. The arrest resulted from an investigation that allowed gathering evidence of the suspect's involvement in two completed robberies, two attempted robberies and five crimes of bodily harm, two of which are qualified.
According to the District Command of the PSP of Faro, the victims were approached in public spaces and forced to hand over money and other belongings, with the suspects resorting to violence. The young man usually operated accompanied by other individuals, who have since been identified and formally charged, with him, according to the evidence gathered, assuming a leadership and instigation role in the actions.
The police highlighted the severity of some of the conduct attributed to the suspect, referring to an episode in which he allegedly continued kicking a victim after she had already fallen to the ground and was unconscious. The young man was located by members of the Criminal Investigation Brigade of the Lagos Police Station and, after evidence was collected and consolidated, an arrest warrant was issued and executed outside of flagrante delicto.
After being presented for the first judicial hearing, pre-trial detention was applied on Tuesday morning as the precautionary measure. The PSP considers that this arrest represents a significant contribution to preventing the continuation of violent actions and reinforcing the safety and tranquility of citizens in Lagos.
