GNR alerts for scams in awareness action in Felgueiras

Felgueiras Magazine15 September 2026 at 17:56

The Territorial Command of Porto of the GNR carried out on September 13 a community policing operation throughout the district, including Felgueiras, dedicated to the prevention of scams. The action aimed to raise awareness among the population about the growing sophistication of this type of crime. Second Lieutenant Davide Chaves, from the Felgueiras Territorial Detachment, explained that the purpose was to inform people and provide small security tips to avoid these criminal offenses.

In the first half of 2026, the Territorial Command of Porto registered 1,779 fraud crimes, with May having the highest number of occurrences during this period. The profile of victims is most prevalent in the age group between 41 and 64 years old.

Among the main tips transmitted by the GNR is to avoid sharing personal information or banking data with strangers. Second Lieutenant Davide Chaves also recommended always being suspicious of someone who encourages haste or urgency for a specific action and, in case of doubt or suspicion, contacting the GNR, noting that a small phone call can make all the difference.

The GNR alerts to the importance of being suspicious of contacts involving requests for urgent payments, money transfers, or providing personal, banking, or access codes. Given any suspicious approach or case of fraud, the GNR recommends that citizens immediately contact the authorities or file a complaint at the nearest Territorial Post.

Why this matters

Residents of the Porto district face a growing risk of fraud, with almost 1,800 crimes registered in just six months, mainly affecting people between 41 and 64 years old. The GNR provides concrete practical advice that can help citizens protect themselves from fraud, emphasizing that prevention depends on information and suspicion of suspicious contacts.
