The Supreme Federal Court has an internal rule that determines the organization of seats in the chamber based on the position and seniority of the justices. Edson Fachin, Chief Justice of the Court, occupies the central position. To his right sits the Attorney General, Paulo Gonet, representing the Public Ministry, while to his left is the secretary of the sessions.
From the central position, the remaining justices are distributed following a logic of decreasing seniority, with the sides alternating always starting from the right. It is within this framework that Alexandre de Moraes and André Mendonça end up sitting side by side, both on Fachin's right side.
Moraes occupies the seat that was Teori Zavascki's, being the fifth most recent justice of the House. Meanwhile, Mendonça, one step ahead in seniority, occupies the third most recent position and inherited the place that was Marco Aurélio Mello's. Kássio Nunes Marques, fourth on the seniority list, sits in another position.
