Polly, a golden retriever dog, managed to save her owner Adam Cooke's life after he suffered a cardiac arrest while sleeping, in March 2024. The incident occurred at the couple's home in Ballinamallard, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland.
Polly alerted Adam's wife, Hannah Cooke, by barking during the night, while the couple was asleep. Hannah woke up and immediately realized her husband was breathing abnormally. Shortly after, Adam stopped breathing completely, in a cardiac arrest situation.
Hannah recognized the severity of the situation and immediately called emergency services. The woman followed the emergency line's instructions while waiting for help. Hannah's rapid intervention, combined with the early warning provided by Polly, was decisive in saving Adam's life.
The golden retriever's behavior was crucial in ensuring the situation did not have a fatal outcome. Polly sensed the danger before anyone else and managed to alert the family in time, once again demonstrating the important role that pets can have in their owners' lives.
