The Portuguese Parachuting Federation inaugurated its new headquarters in Évora this Tuesday, at a ceremony presided over by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, Margarida Balseiro Lopes, attended by the president of the federation, Eduardo Manuel Rodrigues, and the Vice-President of the Évora Municipal Council, Jerónimo José.
The vice-president of the Alentejo municipality considered the installation of the federation in the city as recognition of the territory's historical connection to parachuting and the excellent conditions existing for the practice of the sport, emphasizing that the FPP is the only national federation headquartered in that territory.
Jerónimo José stated that the federation's presence can contribute to "exponentiating Évora" as a territory associated with parachuting, not only from a sporting perspective, but also from a tourist and economic one, explaining that operators at the Évora airfield already attract practitioners and visitors, with an impact on local hospitality and restaurants.
The Évora Municipal Council is preparing interventions at the municipal airfield, including a new gatehouse and fencing to enhance security, as well as the complete repaving of the runway, through a joint application with the municipalities of Beja, Ponte de Sor and Grândola, in addition to investments in communication equipment and lighting.
