Justice André Mendonça, of the Supreme Federal Court, denied having committed irregularities in conducting the case involving former banker Daniel Vorcaro and Justice Alexandre de Moraes. In a filing sent to the president of the STF, Edson Fachin, Mendonça defended the legality of the procedures adopted and challenged questions about the preparation and submission of a Federal Police report that identified Moraes as Vorcaro's interlocutor.
The filing was submitted before the scheduled hearing. Mendonça argues that his actions fell within his assigned powers and that the investigative steps determined in the case were aimed at clarifying the facts under investigation.
The justice also rejects the claim that he used the investigation to target Moraes or exceeded the limits of his authority. The Federal Police report is at the center of the controversy, gathering information obtained during the investigation that points to Moraes as Vorcaro's interlocutor.
