The Minister of Education, Fernando Alexandre, responded to the criticism made at the beginning of the school year about students without school placement. The official stated that the situation in Sintra does not correspond to the numbers presented by Fenprof, the teachers' union that reported the existence of thousands of students without school.
Fernando Alexandre revealed that schools were identified that had the capacity to receive more students, but that refused these admissions. The minister announced that he asked for explanations from the schools involved and ordered an inquiry by the Inspectorate to investigate the reasons that led to the refusal of students when there were vacancies available.
This situation arises at a time of tension between the Ministry of Education and teachers' unions, which have been criticizing the management of the beginning of the school year and the failures in student placement, particularly in the Sintra region.
