Doctor without certification for obstetric ultrasounds in the NHS performed almost 5000 in the private sector

ZAP Notícias15 September 2026 at 12:00

A doctor who was performing obstetric ultrasounds in the SNS had that authorization revoked but continued to perform them in the private sector, having carried out almost 5000 exams under these conditions. This doctor was the same one who performed the ultrasound on a pregnant woman at the Ceraque clinic, in Pinhal Novo, whose baby was born with an incomplete leg. The case was reported by SIC in October 2025.

The Health Regulatory Authority (ERS) stated that it received, between 2023 and 2025, eight complaints regarding the owner of the Ceraque clinic, who owns another unit in Queluz. Following the news reports about the case of the baby born with malformation, ERS opened an investigation process into the clinic's procedures.

Why this matters

Readers in the Pinhal Novo and Queluz areas learn that a local clinic is under investigation by ERS following patient complaints, and that a doctor without certification for obstetric ultrasounds in the NHS reportedly performed almost 5000 of these exams in the private sector. This information alerts pregnant women and patients to potential risks in choosing clinics and in the trust they place in health professionals who are not certified for certain procedures.
