A new type of WhatsApp scam is affecting iPhone users. This form of attack differs from traditional scams, representing a more sophisticated threat for users of the messaging application.
The identified cases reveal that victims had not associated new devices with their accounts, nor clicked on suspicious links, measures that are normally recommended to prevent digital fraud. However, their accounts started sending money requests without their knowledge.
The scam exploits vulnerabilities that allow attackers to access victims' accounts and use them to send messages requesting money from their contacts, taking advantage of the trust established in users' personal relationships.
The main recommendation for users to protect themselves is to remain vigilant regarding money requests received through WhatsApp, even when they appear to come from known contacts, and to always verify the authenticity of requests through alternative channels before making any transfer.
