Body of missing Brazilian after boat accident in Venice is found

oglobo15 September 2026 at 12:12

The body of Brazilian Gabriella Querino Elorriaga, 26 years old, was found on Tuesday (15th) in a lagoon in the Campalto Island area, in Venice, Italy. The information was confirmed by the Italian press and by the mayor of Venice, Simone Venturini, on his social media.

Gabriella had been missing since Saturday, when the boat she was in with her husband, Italian fisherman Sean Michieli, collided with a water taxi near Tessera island. The husband suffered severe head trauma and did not survive his injuries, passing away.

The water taxi driver responsible for the vessel that collided with the couple's boat is under investigation for suspected involuntary manslaughter. The exact circumstances of the collision are still under investigation by Italian authorities.

On social media, Mayor Simone Venturini shared a photo of Gabriella and stated that, with the location of the Brazilian's body, "the tragic story has ended in the most painful way." With this, both Gabriella and her husband Sean Michieli were fatal victims of the water accident that occurred last Saturday.

Why this matters

The tragic accident involving a Brazilian in Venice highlights the navigation risks in the city's waterways and raises questions about the supervision of boat traffic and the responsibility of water taxi pilots. The case also directly affects the Brazilian community in the region, which loses a 26-year-old young woman under violent circumstances.
