Women continue to be a minority in Portuguese governments, showing persistent gender disparities in the country's power structures. This situation has remained over the years, despite advances in other areas of society.
According to a study mentioned in the news, to reach positions of power, women have to present more technical qualifications than men. This additional requirement represents a significant barrier to their entry and progression in political life.
The study demonstrates that gender inequality begins right at access to power, not limited to issues of promotion or advancement within governmental structures. In other words, the obstacle appears from the initial moment women try to join governments.
The information was disseminated by the FALA PORTUGAL program, broadcast by TV RECORD, which has been following current affairs and social issues in Portugal.
