Six violations in the first hours of the new heavy vehicle regime on the VCI in Porto

Correio da Manhã15 September 2026 at 11:27

The prohibition of heavy vehicles without destination to the cities of Porto or Vila Nova de Gaia on the Inner Ring Road (VCI) came into force today, in effect between 07:00 and 21:00 on weekdays. In the first hours of application of this measure, six violations were recorded. This restriction applies only to heavy vehicles that do not have the two cities as their destination. The objective of the measure is to reduce the transit of heavy vehicles passing through the VCI, which is an urban road, during peak traffic hours.

Why this matters

Truck drivers and logistics companies that need to transit through the VCI without destination to Porto or Gaia are directly affected, being subject to fines and forced to find alternative routes. The remaining drivers and residents of the surrounding area may benefit from less congestion and greater road fluidity during the restriction hours.
