The XXIII Festival of Rancho Folclórico Santa Maria de Moreira takes place next Saturday, September 19, at 9:00 PM, at Largo da Igreja Paroquial de Moreira, in the municipality of Monção. The event closes the cycle of folk festivals held during the year in the municipality.
After the "Ethnographic Afternoons", held between late April and early May at Praça Deu-la-Deu, several parishes of the municipality hosted folk gatherings dedicated to preserving and sharing local traditions and knowledge.
This year's edition will have special significance, as tribute will be paid to Horácio Militão, one of the founders of Rancho Folclórico Santa Maria de Moreira, who recently passed away. The founder was at the origin of the group and left a mark on the history of the rancho and the culture of the parish.
In addition to the host group, the festival features Rancho Folclórico Tentação de Ludares from Vila Real, Rancho Folclórico das Camponesas da Vila de Soajo, Rancho Estrela do Norte from Gondoriz, and Rancho Folclórico de Campos from Vila Nova de Cerveira.
