Mercadona will open its first store in the Algarve on October 15, in Portimão. The supermarket will be located at Nova Vila Retail Park and marks the arrival of the Spanish chain in the Algarve region, after several years of expansion in Portugal across different parts of the country. Until now, the Algarve was not part of the company's supermarket network, which means this opening turns into reality a presence that did not exist in the region.
The location in Portimão was chosen for the brand's debut in the Algarve. The company states that the new store continues its national growth plan and reinforces its commitment to the Portuguese market, now with entry into a new regional market.
Mercadona designates its customers as "Jefes" and presents the new unit as a way to get closer to them. The chain states that it will maintain its efficient store model, oriented toward quality and service it considers suited to customer demands.
The opening in Portimão constitutes an alternative for those living in the Algarve who know Mercadona through trips to Ayamonte, in Spain, where many Algarve consumers went to shop at the Spanish chain.
