Fesap. Even if the minimum wage in the State rose to 1,030 euros in 2027, it would still be "short"

Sábado15 September 2026 at 09:37

FESAP warned that, even if the minimum wage in the State rose to 1,030 euros in 2027, this value would continue to be insufficient. The union considers that the remuneration base of the public administration needs to continue to be increased, naturally moving away from the national minimum wage.

The matter was addressed by the Secretary-General of FESAP, who argued that the convergence of public salaries to values above the national minimum is essential to enhance the public sector and attract qualified workers.

This position arises in the context of salary negotiations between the government and public administration unions, where FESAP has been pressing for increases that go beyond government proposals.

The union understands that keeping the base remuneration very close to the national minimum wage harms the motivation of public employees and compromises the quality of services provided to the State.

Why this matters

Public administration workers in Portugal are directly affected by this union position, which warns of the need for salary increases that go beyond the minimum wage. This discussion arises in the context of salary negotiations between the government and public sector unions.
