Seventeen presidents of European telecommunications companies, including Meo's CEO, sent a joint letter calling for a correction of the course of Digital Networks and Cybersecurity laws. This initiative comes at a time when various European regulations are affecting the telecommunications sector.
The letter specifically addresses the cybersecurity law, which concerns sector leaders due to the widespread equipment removal requirements it provides for. The presidents consider that this measure may have significant impacts on telecommunications companies' operations.
The mobilization of these 17 leaders represents a coordinated effort by the European telecommunications industry to influence the European Union's regulatory policy. Meo CEO's participation highlights the involvement of Portuguese companies in this European debate.
The signatories argue that it is necessary to review the direction of these laws to ensure they do not create unnecessary obstacles to the development of digital networks in Europe, in a context where the sector faces growing challenges of competitiveness and technological transformation.
