Diageo, a global alcoholic beverage manufacturer, is launching an anti-fraud seal called Drink Seguro Diageo Seal, one year after the methanol crisis in Brazil. The technology, which uses artificial intelligence, promises to be a tool to bring more safety to consumers, with 99.99% security against counterfeiting.
The consumption of counterfeit beverages last year caused at least 22 deaths and left nearly 80 people poisoned in five Brazilian states. This episode motivated the company to develop the new anti-fraud solution.
According to Paula Lindenberg, president of Diageo in Brazil, the Drink Seguro Seal is an initiative that offers an additional layer of protection for consumers, without replacing the quality and safety controls adopted in the company's operations. The seal allows consumers to verify that the product has legal origin and is safe.
