The Portuguese Olympic Committee (COP) completed another stage in the implementation of the National Sports Development Plan (PNDD), concluding the evaluation process for applications under the Women's Sport support measures and Sports Facilities, within the framework of Program Contract CP/893/2024. In total, more than 4.8 million euros in direct financing will be distributed, covering clubs, associations and sports structures from different regions of the country.
In the measure dedicated to Women's Sport, 151 applications were submitted, of which 143 were approved, representing an approval rate of 95%. The supported projects total an investment of 2,197,739.42 euros, corresponding to approximately 31% of the overall allocation of 7 million euros available.
For the rehabilitation of Sports Facilities, 203 applications were received, with 85 approvals, corresponding to a success rate of 42%. The assigned financing amounts to 2,658,741.73 euros, equivalent to approximately 26% of the 10 million euros available. The COP also identified a structural constraint: many sports facilities operate without an operating license, which significantly limited the approval of applications.
The President of the COP, Fernando Gomes, highlighted that the results demonstrate the capacity to transform public funding into effective sports development, also emphasizing the positive signal of Women's Sport. Gomes warned, however, of the need to find solutions that allow for the inclusion of old facilities that need requalification. This issue is particularly relevant, as approximately 12 million euros more will be made available for measures of Equipment and Recovery of Sports Facilities affected by storms.
