AI in health must be accountable

Observador15 September 2026 at 00:03

Artificial intelligence in healthcare needs to be accountable. The article argues that each public investment in AI must be accompanied by clear and simple information, to ensure transparency and accountability in the use of public resources.

The text establishes three fundamental requirements for any investment in this area: first, clearly identify the problem the technology aims to solve; second, present the total cost of the project; and third, explain how the success of the initiative will be evaluated.

This approach aims to ensure that the implementation of AI in the health sector is grounded, traceable, and subject to public scrutiny, avoiding investments without measurable results or clear justifications.

Why this matters

Readers are directly affected because their taxes fund these investments in AI in healthcare, and they have the right to know how public money is being spent. The article follows a growing debate about the need for government accountability in the implementation of artificial intelligence technologies in essential public services such as healthcare.
