The Brazilian tennis player João Fonseca returns to the courts this week after being absent from the US Open, the last Grand Slam of the year, due to an abdominal injury. He has not played since August 16, when he eliminated Dutch player B. van de Zandschulp at the Cincinnati Open. After that match, the athlete withdrew from the tournament upon identifying the injury and was away from the courts for approximately one month.
João Fonseca will compete this week in the Davis Cup in the match between Brazil and Switzerland. The matches will take place on September 18 and 19 at Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro. The Brazilian team also includes players Gustavo Heide, Matheus Pucinelli, Rafael Matos, and Orlando Luz.
On Monday afternoon (14), the Brazilian Tennis Federation published a video showing the Brazilian athletes training for the competition. The anticipation surrounding João Fonseca's comeback is significant, given his strong performance at the Cincinnati Open and his extended time away from competitive play.
