The Venice Prosecutor's Office, in Italy, is investigating the water taxi driver involved in an accident that killed 25-year-old Italian Sean Michieli and left 25-year-old Brazilian Gabriella Querino Elorriaga missing. The taxi driver is under investigation for suspected nautical manslaughter.
The collision occurred around 5:30 AM on Saturday (12), in the Tessera canal, in the Venice lagoon, near Marco Polo Airport. Gabriella, from Ribeirão Preto (SP), was on a small boat piloted by her husband, Sean Michieli.
The couple had left the island of Burano, where they lived, heading to San Giuliano, on the mainland. According to information released by the Italian press, Michieli had left the island to get fishing bait.
According to initial reports, the two boats crossed in the dark and the water taxi driver was unable to avoid the collision.
