The father of a girl who was participating in the science fair at Colégio Tamandaré, in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, in the Southwest Zone of Rio de Janeiro, gave an exclusive interview to GLOBO to report how he discovered that his daughter had been pierced with a reused lancet during the event. The man said he approached the work and saw equipment related to glucose, insulin and diabetes displayed on the table.
He described that a girl was presenting the work and that many children gathered around the attraction. It was then that the father realized something was wrong when approaching again. The father detailed the moment he realized the situation and expressed the desperation he felt after receiving the school's communication about the incident.
The interviewer's daughter will have to undergo a 28-day preventive treatment after being pierced with the reused lancet. The case generated concern among the parents of students who participated in the event, since the sharing of piercing instruments can represent risks of contamination by blood-borne diseases.
