Canada's Prime Minister, Mark Carney, advocated for the creation of a global "technological stability" body to oversee artificial intelligence and ensure it is safe. Carney made these statements in an interview with Bloomberg News on Monday.
According to the Canadian prime minister, there is a need for international coordination in AI regulation. He stated that, in his view, it would make sense to create a technological stability council along the lines of the Financial Stability Board.
The Financial Stability Board, known by the acronym FSB in English, is an international body created in 2009 by the G20 to monitor and make recommendations about the global financial system. Carney suggests that a similar body could be established to deal with technological issues.
The Canadian prime minister stated that the creation of such a body would represent an opportunity and that, ultimately, it would result in greater value creation and delivery in the context of artificial intelligence.
