Among the leaders who advocated for greater government oversight of AI and slower development of the new technology are Dario Amodei, from Anthropic, Sam Altman, from OpenAI, Demis Hassabis, head of Google DeepMind, and Elon Musk. These companies are some of the leading artificial intelligence firms in the world.
Concerns about artificial intelligence have increased after researchers in the field warned that this technology could decimate humanity or generate chaos in civilization in a short time, which motivated the calls for regulation from the sector's own leaders.
President Donald Trump appeared to agree with Vance's comments, indicating a possible position against government regulation of AI on the part of the US administration.
