The Public Prosecutor's Office opened an inquiry into the director of the Judicial Police, Carlos Cabreiro, for suspected abuse of power. Cabreiro is suspected of having lied in court and of having ordered a prohibited phone tap in the case involving hacker Rui Pinto.
The complaint against Carlos Cabreiro was filed by David Freitas, who is the subject of a disciplinary process instituted by the PJ itself. Freitas is alleged to have been the person who presented the accusations against the director of the Judicial Police.
The case is related to Rui Pinto's proceedings, the hacker known for having revealed confidential documents relating to Portuguese football clubs and who is currently cooperating with Portuguese authorities as a protected witness.
