The Local Health Unit (UL) of Castelo Branco today warned about the presence in the municipality of Castelo Branco of the mosquito that transmits dengue, zika and chikungunya diseases. The detection was confirmed through an entomological surveillance program implemented in the region.
The mosquito in question is Aedes aegypti, which had previously been identified in other areas of the country. Health authorities are reinforcing monitoring and control measures for the mosquito population in the affected area.
The Directorate-General for Health recommends that the population adopt prevention measures, including the elimination of places where standing water can accumulate, which serves as breeding grounds for these insects. The use of repellents and clothing that covers the skin is also advised.
Although the presence of the mosquito does not automatically mean an outbreak of diseases, authorities remain vigilant to detect early any imported cases and prevent local transmission of these infections.
