More than two-thirds of Madeira students who participated in the "Fruit Heroes" project tried a fruit or vegetable for the first time that they had never tried before. The result is part of the monitoring of the programme during the 2024/2025 school year.
The study was carried out by the Institute of Environmental Health of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon, in partnership with the Portuguese Association Against Childhood Obesity. The data collected shows that 68.4% of participating students tried new fruit and vegetables through this initiative.
The "Fruit Heroes" project aims to promote healthier eating habits among young people, encouraging the consumption of fruits and vegetables. Monitoring the results makes it possible to assess the effectiveness of the programme in changing the eating behaviours of Madeiran students.
