Research reveals respiratory symptom in 92% of Brazilians

A survey conducted by Datafolha in partnership with biopharmaceutical company GSK revealed that 92% of the Brazilian population reported having presented at least one respiratory symptom in the past 12 months. Among the symptoms mentioned are shortness of breath, frequent cough, and stuffy nose.

The survey alerts to a concerning phenomenon: the normalization of respiratory symptoms. Among those interviewed, 62% believe that cough or shortness of breath only need to be evaluated by a doctor when they start limiting daily activities, while 57% consider it normal to feel short of breath with aging and another 57% evaluate that frequent cough is a normal effect of smoking.

The survey was structured in two independent modules. The first was a quantitative stage representative of the Brazilian population, with 2,004 interviews conducted. The second module focused on the journey of care of Brazilians regarding respiratory health.
