Two thirds of the schools surveyed in a study by the National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof) reported having been affected by the lack of teachers during the last school year. The study, whose results were released today, reveals that the shortage of teachers had a significant impact on the functioning of Portuguese schools.
Among the most felt effects, temporarily classes without teaching activities stand out, affecting 42.5% of schools, problems in the allocation of recruitment groups, referred to by 40% of institutions, and workload overload of teachers, felt by 38% of educational establishments.
At least one of these three effects was felt by 63.7% of the schools that responded to the study. This high percentage demonstrates the extent of the problem of lack of teachers in the Portuguese education system.
As for the school year that is now beginning, one third of school management teams expressed concern and anticipates difficulties in the organization of teaching activities due to the continuity of the problems of lack of teachers.
