Blue Think 2026 Conference revealed PhD students from CIIMAR and CCMAR

SAPO14 September 2026 at 14:28

The 7th edition of the Blue Think Conference (BTC) was recently held, bringing together early-career researchers in marine and environmental sciences. The event served as a platform for the presentation and revelation of PhD students from CIIMAR and CCMAR, two reference institutions in marine research in Portugal.

Traditionally held at CIIMAR in Matosinhos, the conference will now alternate between CIIMAR and CCMAR. This change reflects the ongoing collaboration between the two research institutions, strengthening the academic and scientific ties between their researchers.

The event was organized by CIMAR-LA and featured the participation of young researchers who presented their work in marine and environmental sciences. The Blue Think Conference has thus consolidated itself as an important space for the training and networking of new researchers in these scientific areas.

Why this matters

The change in the conference rotation between CIIMAR and CCMAR symbolizes the strengthening of collaboration between these two marine research institutions in Portugal. For the scientific and academic community in the region, this represents an increased opportunity for networking and visibility for young researchers. For the general public, it highlights the importance of marine and environmental sciences as a strategic research area in the country.

What effect do colors have on our brain?

Colors do not physically exist in light — it only contains wavelengths, and it is the nervous system that constructs the experience of color by processing signals from the retina. Science confirms that there is a neuroscience of color, with research demonstrating how different shades affect emotions, concentration, and human behavior. The human retina has five types of photoreceptors (four types of cones and rods) that work together to create our chromatic perception, and although associations such as red with danger or green with tranquility are widespread, the neurological response to colors is more complex and individual than many imagine.
