VCI to change: majority of trucks banned from circulating

TVI Notícias14 September 2026 at 14:05

From this Tuesday, heavy vehicle circulation on the VCI (Via de Cintura Interna), in Porto, will be banned during the period between 7:00 AM and 9:00 PM. This measure aims to restrict truck traffic on the main urban road of the city.

The mandatory alternative for most trucks will be the A41, better known as CREP (Circular Regional Externa do Porto). This surrounding road will be the designated route for heavy vehicles during the hours when circulation on the VCI is prohibited.

The measure represents a significant change in road circulation conditions in the Porto metropolitan area, directly affecting transport and logistics companies that use this road daily.

Why this matters

Readers who use the VCI daily, namely logistics operators and transport companies, will have to plan new routes using the A41, which may imply increases in travel times and operational costs. This restriction comes as a result of urban mobility policies to reduce heavy traffic in the centre of Porto.
