Cezinha de Madureira, target of Federal Police, was president of evangelical caucus and is allied with André Mendonça; find out who he is

oglobo14 September 2026 at 12:47

Federal deputy Cezinha de Madureira (PL-SP) was targeted by a Federal Police operation on Monday investigating suspected influence peddling in higher courts. He is one of the most longstanding and influential figures in the political articulation of the Assembly of God in the National Congress and is in his second term as a federal deputy from São Paulo.

Before entering the Chamber in 2019, Cezinha was a state deputy and even chaired the Evangelical Parliamentary Front, in addition to having been vice-leader of the Jair Bolsonaro government in the Chamber. He is also an ally of Supreme Court Minister André Mendonça.

Born in Ipiaú, Bahia, the parliamentarian moved to São Paulo in the 1990s and built his entire political trajectory based on his connection with the Assembly of God Ministry of Madureira, one of the country's major pentecostal denominations. The deputy is close to Bishop Samuel Ferreira, executive president of the church, and has established himself as one of the main representatives of the denomination in political circles.

Why this matters

The Federal Police operation against Cezinha de Madureira, one of the main leaders of the evangelical caucus in Congress, could affect religious political articulation in Brasília and raises questions about alleged relationships between the parliamentarian and decisions in higher courts. Readers who follow Brazilian politics and public finances may be impacted by potential developments involving the misuse of influence with the judiciary.
