Tech company stocks decline after CEOs request slowdown on AI

oglobo14 September 2026 at 13:03

Technology company stocks registered strong drops in global markets this Monday, driven by growing concern about artificial intelligence security and the possibility of a slowdown in technology development. The negative movement especially affected chip manufacturers and companies linked to the memory market.

Before the Wall Street opening, investors started considering that a slower pace of AI expansion could reduce investments in infrastructure needed to sustain the sector's growth. Nvidia, one of the main beneficiaries of the AI boom, registered a decline of 2.9%, while Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) fell 5.7%.

In the American pre-market, Sandisk, Intel and Micron fell more than 5%. SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk, was also pressured, with a decline of 2.6%. Companies that operate massive cloud computing structures, such as Meta and Amazon, had drops above 1.4% each.

Why this matters

Readers in the region are affected because they invest in pension and retirement funds that have exposure to these companies, and the stock decline can impact their future returns. Additionally, local technology and service provider companies for the AI sector may face reduced demand for their products and services if AI infrastructure investments decrease significantly. WHY: Readers are affected because they have exposure to these markets through investments in pension and retirement funds, and the stock decline can impact their future returns. Additionally, local technology and service provider companies for the AI sector may face reduced demand if AI infrastructure investments decrease.
