Europe's natural gas price rises more than 5% and reaches highs since 2023

Diário de Viseu14 September 2026 at 12:45

Europe's natural gas price rose more than 5%, reaching levels not seen since 2023. This appreciation represents a reversal in relation to the market's behavior the previous week.

The rise occurred after natural gas ended lower last Friday. Before that decline, the market had recorded five consecutive sessions of gains.

This movement reflects the volatility characteristic of the European energy market, where prices frequently oscillate in reaction to various supply and demand factors.

Why this matters

European consumers and businesses that depend on natural gas may face higher energy costs in the coming months. This rise follows a period of volatility in energy markets, reflecting the ongoing uncertainty in energy supply and prices in Europe.
