The PS leader, José Carneiro, stated that the Socialist Party was the first to advocate for fuel VAT reduction. This position was taken by the party when the measure was not yet consensual in the Portuguese political landscape.
Carneiro guaranteed that, at the time, the Government dismissed the proposal presented by the PS. The executive did not consider the reduction of fuel VAT as a priority or necessary measure at that moment.
According to the Socialist leader, time has proven the PS right. The subsequent evolution of the situation confirmed that the reduction of fuel VAT was a justified and necessary measure.
