The American actress Jaclyn Smith, 80 years old, known for playing Kelly Garrett in the series "Charlie's Angels", revealed that she has been living with an "unusual" form of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) since the age of 12. She talks about the condition in her new book, "I Once Knew a Guy Named Charlie", released on September 8.
The symptoms began after the death of an uncle, at age 54, due to alcoholism. According to Smith, the obsessions were related to the attempt to protect family members through prayers, penances and sacrifices, functioning as a way to control anxiety in the face of fear of losing close people.
In an interview with People magazine, Smith explained that the behavior worked as a way to cope with anxiety regarding her loved ones. She stated that this form of OCD was unusual because everything revolved around prayer, sacrifice and manifestation, which relieved her nervousness about the people she loves.
