The proposal known as "Cheque-Trump", which consists of paying five thousand dollars to each citizen should Republicans win the November midterm elections, is generating controversy in the United States. Although considered an ethical violation, the idea is not illegal from a technical standpoint.
Not even the Republican Party members in Congress seem to appreciate this initiative. The reception among their fellow party members has been negative, with several expressing their disapproval publicly.
Critics of this proposal use harsh terms to describe it. There is talk of creating "addiction" among citizens, of "destruction of the soul" of the population and, simply, of "bribery" of voters to secure votes in the elections.
The article classifies the idea as "pathetic and sad", suggesting that the strategy is seen as desperate and ethically questionable, even if technically within the bounds of the law.
