The Terra de Miranda Cultural Movement (MCTM) directs harsh criticism at the director-general of the Tax Authority (AT) for the lack of response to several letters sent both by the movement itself and by the six municipalities covered by the six dams sold by EDP to Movhera, in a deal worth 2.2 billion euros.
According to MCTM, around 500 million euros in IMT, Stamp Duty, and IRC are at stake, representing public revenues of enormous magnitude. On May 14, the six municipalities sent a qualified legal opinion to the AT director identifying the essential aspects that must be safeguarded to prevent assessments from being annulled later.
Four months have passed and, despite insistences, the AT has not responded to the local authorities or the Movement, which on May 4 sent another study on the matter and requested a meeting to present and discuss it. The MCTM rejects that it is asking any favor from the AT, stating that it only wants the taxes from the dam sale to be correctly assessed and collected.
The movement also warns that, when around 500 million euros are at stake, it will mobilize citizens so that responsibilities are established and have consequences.
