The missionary Rhavenna Barcelos de Almeida was arrested on suspicion of involvement with Comando Vermelho in Mato Grosso. According to the investigation by the Mato Grosso Civil Police, she maintained a romantic relationship with a gang leader who had fled to Rio de Janeiro and shared with her information about his hideout and police operations in Complexo do Alemão. Investigators point out that Rhavenna and her parents, pastors Orminda and Nivaldo de Almeida, used a religious assistance project in prisons to pass messages and launder drug trafficking money. The family operated at the Central Penitentiary of Cuiaba, where drug trafficker Jonas Souza Gonçalves Júnior, known as Batman, was serving his sentence.
Batman is identified by police as one of the leaders of Comando Vermelho in Mato Grosso. He was sentenced to 49 years in prison. In September 2024, he moved to semi-open regime, with an electronic monitoring anklet. Three days later, he escaped and went to Rio de Janeiro, where he maintained contact with the missionary.
