Police arrest man who robbed computer store

Jornal Notícias da Covilhã14 September 2026 at 10:55

The Judicial Police arrested a 35-year-old man who robbed a computer store at the beginning of last week, in the city center of Covilhã and in broad daylight. The individual is suspected of having used the same method in several crimes: he would enter stores pretending to be a customer and then threaten employees with a firearm, stealing money and dozens of mobile phones.

According to the PJ, the suspect is responsible for three completed robberies, one attempted robbery and a kidnapping offense. The remaining robberies reportedly occurred between June 11 and July 11, in Braga and Guimarães, with one of the stores in Guimarães being robbed twice. Across all these crimes, dozens of mobile phones valued at over 100,000 euros were stolen.

After the robbery in Covilhã, the suspect was spotted near another mobile phone store in Porto. The investigation allowed officers to identify him, and the man was intercepted and arrested on September 10, near that establishment. In the vehicle he was driving, with false registration plates, the PJ seized an illegal 9-millimeter caliber firearm and other objects related to the crimes.

A second man, aged 24, was also arrested in Monção, suspected of having participated as a co-author in one of the robberies. Both suspects were brought before a judge for their first interrogation at the Judicial Court of Guimarães and were subject to the precautionary measure of preventive detention.
