Becky Jones, now 34 years old, discovered in 2025 that she spent 11 years undergoing chemotherapy treatment for a brain cancer she never had. She had received a diagnosis of grade four glioblastoma at age 21, an aggressive form of the disease, and was told she had only a few months to live. An independent review later concluded that she was actually suffering from tumefactive demyelination, a brain inflammation that could have been treated simply with steroids.
The case is now part of a lawsuit filed by more than 40 patients against the University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust, the United Kingdom institution where the treatments were carried out. The patients report having received temozolomide (TMZ), a medication used against some brain tumors, for prolonged periods.
