João Paulo Santos, 46 years old, was arrested by the Anti-Trafficking Unit of the Judicial Police. The man was the trainer of Benfica's eagles, the football club's mascots, and was captured as part of an operation related to drug trafficking.
The investigation revealed that the trainer helped a handling employee at Lisbon airport to remove cocaine that had been trafficked. The employee, responsible for ground handling services, collaborated with the drug trafficking network.
The police operation culminated in the arrest of both suspects, who were placed in preventive detention. Authorities continue to investigate the extent of this trafficking network at Portugal's main airport.
