The British multinational Lightsource BP decided to abandon the Beira Solar Plant, a project that was planned to be built in the municipalities of Castelo Branco and Idanha-a-Nova. The decision was announced by the company itself.
Environmentalists reacted to the news considering the abandonment as a half victory. This is because the Sophia solar plant, which was also under the responsibility of Lightsource BP, remains standing and operational in the municipalities of Idanha-a-Nova and Penamacor.
The abandoned project in Beira represented one of the largest solar energy initiatives planned for the region, but the company chose not to continue with its implementation.
