A telephone technician identified as Aditya Bhan Singh was tied to a cell tower in the village of Hardauli, in Fatehpur, in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. The incident occurred after local residents made a series of complaints about the quality of mobile connectivity in the region.
The case only came to the attention of police after images of the worker tied to the structure were shared on social media. Singh had gone to the location to check the connectivity problems but was approached by the residents as soon as he arrived.
The village inhabitants said they had been paying for a 5G service for more than two years but continued to receive a slow and unstable signal, mainly on 4G. They stated they had already made previous complaints without obtaining any solution from the operator.
By tying the technician with cables to the tower, the residents intended to pressure higher-ranking employees of the telephone company to visit the region and definitively resolve the signal problems affecting the community.
