Niterói recorded a 10.7% drop in Enel energy cable theft in the first half of this year, compared to the same period of 2025. From January to June, approximately 500 meters of wires were stolen from the city's electrical grid, against 560 meters in the first six months of last year. The utility company attributes the reduction, among other measures, to the replacement of copper cables with materials of lower commercial value and with similar quality.
Despite the reduction in Niterói, theft of electrical grid components continues to be a problem for the utility company in its area of operation. In the 66 municipalities served by Enel Rio, four kilometers of cables were stolen from public roads in the first half of this year, against six kilometers in the same period of 2025, also representing a reduction in overall numbers.
