Rachel Furtado, known as Chel, was a 46-year-old triathlete born in Brasília who died on Saturday (12) after suffering a sudden illness during training at City Park. She balanced her passion for sports with work on projects focused on mental health and well-being at work, being recognized in the local sports community for practicing triathlon for many years. In recent months, she had reduced the modalities and mainly focused on running and swimming, having recently joined the DEL sports coaching service.
On the morning she felt ill, Rachel normally participated in part of the training and, according to her colleagues, was calm, talking and smiling. A video made by another student captured her moments before the incident occurred. After completing the activity, she decided to run one more kilometer. She then talked with other team members and walked to the car to get her phone.
On her way back, Rachel was found collapsed. A doctor who was participating in the training started first aid procedures on site. The triathlete was rescued and taken to a hospital, but did not survive.
