Turkish police launched a large-scale operation against organizations defending homosexual and transsexual rights in several regions of the country. The operation resulted in the detention of about a dozen activists and the conducting of searches in various nightclubs and spaces frequented by the LGBT community in Istanbul.
Turkish Justice Minister Akin Gürlek announced through social media X that this operation was called "My family is safe." Within the framework of this action, legal proceedings were initiated against 162 people, nine associations and 13 commercial establishments.
The operation represents one of the biggest attacks on the rights of the LGBT community in Turkey in recent years. Turkish authorities have been intensifying pressure on organizations and individuals associated with defending the rights of homosexual and transsexual people in the country.
