Lawyer António Garcia Pereira reiterated in February a request to the Public Prosecutor's Office for it to activate legal mechanisms aimed at banning the Chega party, considering that the party led by André Ventura violates the Constitution.
The ban request is based on the allegation that Chega promotes fascist values contrary to the Portuguese constitutional order.
A judge at the Constitutional Court commented on the situation, stating that it is difficult to ban a political party and simultaneously classify it as fascist, suggesting the legal complexity involved in this type of process.
