Rules for using artificial intelligence in education are positive

oglobo14 September 2026 at 04:09

The National Education Council (CNE) sent to the Ministry of Education (MEC) the first norms for the use of artificial intelligence in Brazilian education, from basic education to the university level. The rules were sent for approval by the federal government.

The norms follow principles already adopted in other countries to regulate the technology. The main objective is that artificial intelligence functions as a support tool for both students and teachers.

The document establishes that AI should not replace teachers and students in tasks considered essential for learning. The technology is limited to a complementary role in the educational process.

Why this matters

These rules will affect how Brazilian schools and universities can integrate AI tools into learning. Students and teachers across all education levels will face new guidelines on how AI can be used in the classroom. This follows a global trend of countries establishing frameworks for AI in education.
