The Irish prime minister, Micheál Martin, downplayed the statements of US President Donald Trump, who on Sunday expressed support for Irish reunification. Martin classified the reaction to Trump's words as "overblown".
Micheál Martin told journalists that the President's words did not surprise him, explaining that Trump believes union is the logical path for the island's configuration.
The statements were made after a lunch with the US President, who is visiting Ireland to participate in a golf tournament.
